Malone Island History

Originally our Association was chartered as Malone Island Marina, Inc. in October 1978 by Mr. Leonard S. Cochran. There were originally 3 board members including Leonard. The Corporation was formed as a 317A non-profit, which is still maintained today.

In the early years there were only several homes and a spattering of temporary structures such as campers or trailer homes. Originally the boat landing was set to be located where the culvert is installed under the trail to access the outlot. There was a sign in shack for all users of the area and was closely monitored by members. The early beginnings of our Corporation were organized very well. There were plans for the new boat landing and development of the outlot for picnics and other family gatherings. The Corporation even had a hat which could be bought by members and apparently sold very well.

Due to parking and congestion issues the boat ramp  was finally changed to its current location.

In the early 1990’s the Malone Island Marina, Inc. was changed to Malone Island Inc due to insurance reasons. 

The name of the Association was again changed in 2012 to officially be Malone Island Association, Inc.

Today, there are 72 homes on the Island, The Corporation is still maintained as a non-profit and everyone living on the island enjoys a way of life that is very rare in today’s environment.
